The 6th General Assembly of the China Society for Promotion of the Guangcai Program (CSPGP) and the national meeting to commend role models in the country’s fight against the COVID-19 epidemic from private enterprises. Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with all representatives attending the event. 

    

      Wang spoke highly of the achievements of the 5th CSPGP Council since its inception, and extended congratulations to individuals from private enterprises who were nominated as role models in the fight against COVID-19. He pointed out that following the instructions of the CPC Central Committee, CSPGP launched a targeted poverty alleviation campaign named “10,000 enterprises assisting 10,000 villages” which plays a vital role in winning the battle against poverty. In face of the raging pandemic, numerous private enterprises have overcome difficulties to produce urgently needed anti-pandemic materials, provide daily necessities for the public, and donate funds and supplies for fighting COVID-19. They demonstrated their love for the motherland and the people, and fulfilled their social responsibility with concrete actions.

　　Wang Yang stressed that the Guangcai Program is a lofty cause to encourage those who become prosperous first to help those who lag behind, which perfectly combines private sector and socialism, and demonstrates the political strength of the Party’s leadership and the institutional strength of socialism with Chinese characteristics. He urged the new CSPGP Council to fully understand the important instructions of Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee , on the Guangcai Program, and earnestly put into practice the guiding principles of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee. The CSPGP needs to encourage people from the private sector to build up a healthy and positive outlook on wealth, promote the Guangcai spirit of “keeping in mind where wealth comes from, seeking progress after getting rich, taking into account both justice and benefits while prioritizing fairness, and helping those in need to achieve common prosperity”, and consciously incorporate their enterprises’ development into the great cause of national rejuvenation and the well-being of the people. It must also mobilize more private enterprises to participate in rural revitalization and the “10,000 enterprises assisting 10,000 villages” campaign, and contribute to narrowing the development and income gaps between urban and rural areas. In addition, efforts should be made to inspire private businesspeople engaged in the Guangcai Program to deepen their understanding of China’s fundamental realities and the CPC’s original aspirations and founding mission, and promote their own healthy development, thereby laying a solid ideological and political foundation for common prosperity rooted in unity and hard work. As the leading body of the Guangcai Program, the CSPGP Council should take solid steps to play an exemplary role in the reform and innovation of the program. Meanwhile, party committees and governments at all levels and people from all walks of life should continue to care and support the Guangcai Program, and the United Front Work Department, as well as the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) and its affiliated organizations should strengthen guidance for the Guangcai Program. 

    

      Others who also met with the representatives are Hu Chunhua, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice premier of the State Council, You Quan, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, Hao Mingjin, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association, and Gao Yunlong, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the ACFIC. 

 

      At the opening ceremony of the meeting, You Quan delivered a speech, pointing out that as China enters the stage of new development, implements new development concepts, and builds new development patterns, it needs to comprehensively strengthen the united front work in the private sector. In this process, the Guangcai Program needs to assume greater responsibility in areas such as solving the problem of unbalanced and inadequate development, expanding domestic demands, and pooling the wisdom and strength of private businesspeople. We should give a better play to the program’s role in strengthening the ideological and political integrity of private businessperson, accelerating the realization of common prosperity of all Chinese people, boosting regional coordinated development between urban and rural areas, and coordinating stronger and more innovative social governance. At the same time, we must continue to urge the CSPGP to seek self-improvement, make full use of the key role of entrepreneurs, and constantly strengthen the unity, influence, and mobilization and leadership of the CSPGP.
